This summer, the Penn State community is invited to engage in the 3rd Annual Summer Blood Donor Challenge, which pits college vs. college and department vs. department in a friendly competition to see who can recruit the most donors.  The college and department with the most donors will win!

This is the third year of the Penn State Summer Blood Drive Challenge. The competition will run from June 1st through July 28th and consist of multiple blood drives on campus and within the local community during those two months.

BJC staff and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics’ are encouraged to come and donate at the BJC blood drive on July 22. To make an appointment, go to redcrossblood.org, use the Blood Donor App, or you can email Melissa from the Red Cross at [email protected].

Although last year’s challenge was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in previous years, the challenge showed great success. Donors are encouraged to donate at their college/department’s sponsored blood drive; however, donors can donate any day and still credit their college/department with their donation. The winning College and Department will receive the coveted Challenge Trophy and bragging rights of course. In addition, various other accolades will be appointed to the College and Department with the:

  • Most Power Reds
  • Most 1st Time Donors
  • Most O- Units
  • Most O+ Units
  • Donor with the most units donated according to Red Cross records
